Tamarin Youth DIY- CrowdFunding
Tamarin Youth DIY
This project is about creating a place that belongs to skaters and the community. A space to gather, to ride, and to share. Inspired by the flow of Dal, it connects skateboarding to the identity of Tamarin and the ocean, keeping that movement culture alive on land.
Our skateboarding community is growing at the Tamarin Youth Center. Every Wednesday and Friday from 4 pm to 6 pm we come together to skate and learn. More young people join us every week and we need to adapt the parking area where we practice with proper infrastructure to support their progression and passion for skateboarding.
We are excited to announce that we have the opportunity to build the first concrete skate ramp on the west coast, giving everyone a space to practice safely and progress consistently.
We are a group of skaters who know how powerful a skate scene can be. Skateboarding brings people together naturally. Once you step on a board, differences fade. Age, background, and skill level do not matter. It becomes about the people, their boards, and the joy of riding together.
Skateboarding is not about being the best or the worst. Everyone shares the same space. It is always challenging no matter your level. It is about pushing your own limits, learning to fall, getting back up, and improving at your own rhythm. This process builds confidence, resilience, and connection.
Community before concrete
A skatepark alone is just concrete. What gives it life is the people who use it, shape it, and create a culture around it. This project is a step in that direction. A first concrete, skatable module that people can use every day. A place to meet, to practice, to learn, and to grow the local skate scene together.
This is how the dream of a larger skatepark becomes real. From the ground up, through people, not just infrastructure.
Built by the people, for the people
This project follows a DIY spirit. The space will be built with community involvement. People from the area will be able to help, learn basic construction skills, and understand how a space like this comes to life.
It is not only about the final structure. It is about the process of building together, sharing knowledge, and creating ownership. When people help build a place, they care for it. They protect it. They make it alive.
In the end, it is not just a skate structure. It becomes a meeting point, a shared achievement, and a space shaped by the people who ride it.
Why donate
Because this project is not only about building a skate structure. It is about building opportunities, confidence, and connection.
Your support helps create a free, open space where young people and adults can grow, challenge themselves, and spend time in a healthy and positive environment. A place where differences fade, friendships form, and resilience is built one try at a time.
You are not just funding concrete. You are helping grow a local skate community in Tamarin, giving it a home, and helping turn the energy of the ocean and the street into something lasting and meaningful.
Every contribution helps transform an empty space into a place full of movement, creativity, and shared experience.
What will the money be used for
The funds raised will go directly into making this skatable community space a reality.
Blocks
36 MUR buys one block.
93 blocks are needed to form the structural base of the module.
Total for blocks: approx 3,350 MUR
Donations here literally build the shape and body of the feature.
Concrete
Concrete creates the riding surface.
1.3 cubic meters are required for this module.
Average cost: about 6,500 MUR per cubic meter.
Total for concrete: approx 8,400 to 8,500 MUR
Your support turns raw materials into the smooth surface people will skate every day.
Steel reinforcement
Steel inside the concrete makes the structure strong, safe, and long lasting.
Estimated cost: 1,500 to 2,000 MUR
Donations here ensure the feature can handle years of use and heavy impact.
Tools
Essential tools include trowels, shovels, levels, wheelbarrow, and safety gear for volunteers. These tools remain with the community for future builds.
Basic tool kit estimate: 8,000 to 12,000 MUR
Supporting tools means helping this project grow beyond one module.
Extra materials and site needs
Formwork timber, tying wire, water, small construction supplies, and site preparation needs. These are critical for quality and durability.
Estimated: 8,000 to 10,000 MUR
We hope to raise 30,000 MUR to bring this first skate module to life. Thank you for your support, and we can’t wait to see you on the spot, riding and building together.
