Mauritius has declared a state of environmental emergency with regards to the shipwreck of the MV WAKASHIO; after oil began leaking from the bulk carrier that ran aground on a coral reef on 25 July 2020 with tonnes of oil. More than 1,000 tonnes of oil have been rapidly leaked into our lagoon.

The ecosystems of the Blue Bay Marine Park, Ile aux Aigrettes nature reserve, Mahebourg fishing reserves, the Pointe d’Esny wetland under the Ramsar Convention barachois (coastal lagoons) and mangroves are threatened. Together! Let's unite to limit the impact of this ecological tragedy.

EcoVadis is collecting funds for during this crisis. We rely on your generous support as always to help us provide support to our community. Please see below some FAQs:

What exactly will the funds be used for? The expenses are linked to the cleaning and protection of the ecosystem and provide sustenance to affected inhabitants.

Who will be using them? Who will we donate the funds to? EcoVadis will assist NGOs in their plan of actions. We will not inject the funds directly in the bank account of the NGOs, but EcoVadis will do the purchasing of any equipment or services required. Stay connected as updates will be provided on the use of the relief fund.

Who will manage the project in EcoVadis? The Community Dodos (the community involvement team of the Mauritius office) will management the project together with the CSR team and the local office management. If you have more questions/comments, you can contact us at communitydodos@ecovadis.com

Why you should contribute? The marine ecosystem is in bad shape and the livelihoods of the inhabitants of the region are affected. We, at EcoVadis, have sustainability and be kind as our core values, have respect of the environment and sustaiinable development in our DNA. In this challenging moment, we are humbly requesting you to provide a support to our local community.
