Help us to donate books and art supplies to underprivileged children in Cuzco, Peru.
We are the two EJ’s - Eva Jacobsz and Elsa Jauffret. We are from Mauritius, and we have been friends since kindergarden. Now that we are both 18 and recently finished our Baccalaureate, we embarked on a new adventure!
We are fundraising as we will be volunteering in Peru as part of our gap year and would like to offer books and art supplies to the underprivileged children we will be working with in Cuzco.
What are we going to do?
Starting September, we will be joining the team of “Peru Volunteer”, an NGO that aims at assisting Peruvian children in their education. We will run reading classes for the children whose mums work at the “Mercado Confraternidad” market of Cuzco. Additionally, we will introduce art classes that Eva will run if we get the supplies. The children are between the ages of 10 to 12, and without Peru Volunteers, they would be roaming around the market.
What is our plan?
We plan to:
1. Donate a proper library with Spanish and English books for the children of Peru Volunteers
2. Buy art supplies for them, and introduce art classes.
Why do we want to do this?
We were both lucky to have access to quality education, but not everyone has the same chance. This year, UNESCO published a report saying that if all students in low-income countries had just basic reading skills and nothing else, an estimated 171 million people could escape extreme poverty. We can’t help 171 million people, but we can start by helping the NGO Peru Volunteer and the kids they support in the “Mercado Confraternidad” of Cuzco to get a chance at better lives.
We are encouraged by the support we’ve already received, but still need help (a lot!) to reach our fundraising goal!
