From Local Impact to Global Change: Help A Young Mauritian Changemaker Attend A Changemakers Fellowship in India
My name is Sivanee, and I am a young changemaker from Mauritius who has spent the past four years working in community development, youth engagement, and sustainability.
My journey has taken me from contributing to youth-led mental health policy discussions with YOUNGA, to informing decision-making through the EU Mauritius Youth Sounding Board, to holding leadership positions in regional youth council and to teaching digital literacy to youth from vulnerable communities in Cape Town. Most recently, I have served as Chief Event Coordinator at Faith – One Step At A Time, where I’ve led over 10 community projects, impacting more than 600 people.
Through these experiences, I’ve learned that while action is essential, sustainable change also requires reflection, empathy, and values-driven leadership. This realisation led me to seek deeper personal and leadership growth.
I’m grateful to share that I’ve been accepted into the Changemakers Collective Fellowship by Initiatives of Change (India) — a five-month residential programme focused on inner transformation, peacebuilding, and values-based leadership.
Through this fellowship, I will deepen my leadership practice, learn evidence-based approaches to community development, and engage with a diverse global community committed to ethical and inclusive change.
However, participating in this programme requires covering programme fees, flights, insurance, and essential travel costs. As a young person from a middle-income background, this is difficult to manage alone.
I am therefore inviting my community to be part of this journey. I am raising Rs 80,000 ($1740) within 30 days to cover the above mentionned costs. A detailed breakdown is as follows:
Programme fees: Rs23.7K ($505)
Round-rip flights: Rs 32.8 K ($699)
Insurance: Rs 15K ($319)
Essential travel costs: Rs 10K ($217)
Your support will not only make my participation possible, but will also strengthen the work I continue to do with young people and communities, creating impact beyond myself.
Thank you for believing in growth rooted in values and collective progress.
With gratitude,
Sivanee
